About Us

Our History

Center for African American Health works to improve the health and well-being of Metro Denver’s Black community by providing educational resources, direct services, and support in navigating systems that impact health.

Originally established in 1997 as the Metro Denver Black Church Initiative (MDBCI), the Center evolved from MDBCI’s efforts to strengthen the capacity of Black churches as social service providers through grants and technical assistance. In 2005, the organization shifted its focus exclusively to addressing health disparities affecting African Americans and officially became the Center for African American Health.

Today, operating out of its dedicated facility in Northeast Denver, the Center’s mission is to empower the Black community to make informed health decisions that support whole-person wellness through education, collaboration, and advocacy.
