Our History

Since 2005, Center for African American Health has worked to improve the health and wellness of Metro Denver’s Black community by helping individuals navigate systems that have an impact on health.

Center for African American Health developed out of the health programs of the Metro Denver Black Church Initiative, which for the prior decade had worked to build the capacity of Black churches as social service providers by providing them with grants and technical assistance. In 2005, the Metro Denver Black Church Initiative made the decision to focus its work solely on the health disparities facing African Americans and officially changed its name to Center for African American Health. Today, based out of its new facility in Northeast Denver, Center for African American Health’s mission is to empower the Black community to make informed health decisions that benefit the whole person through education, collaboration, and advocacy.
