Why Volunteer

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A WAY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Volunteering is a great way to engage in the community, meet people, and learn new things. Volunteers are also critical to The Center for African American Health’s success. Many of our volunteers have had such a positive experience, they have stayed with us for years – becoming deeply involved in the work and success of our programs!

Volunteer Opportunities

  • FAITH & HEALTH LIAISON

Are you a member of a local church or faith community? Help to connect your community to the free programs, events, and services offered by CAA Health by becoming a Faith & Health Liaison. Our Faith & Health Liaisons work with CAA Health staff to coordinate the routine delivery of culturally appropriate health education and free health screenings, as well as to encourage increased physical activity and healthy eating habits among community members. Faith & Health Liaisons benefit from ongoing training about health issues and health resources and receive assistance from CAA Health staff in organizing health-related programming for their communities. Programs are developed to reflect the unique spiritual beliefs and practices of diverse faith communities, with the goals of health promotion and disease prevention. All Faith & Health Liaisons must complete a background check and have the expressed support of their pastor or faith community leader.

  • SPECIAL EVENT VOLUNTEER

We are always in need of volunteers to help with tabling opportunities at community events and our special events, such as our Health Education Events throughout the year, our annual Destination Health event held annually on the 4th Saturday of July, and our Holiday giveaways. Special Event Volunteers typically assist with setting up for an event, greeting and registering attendees during the event, and tearing down after the event is over. Special Event Volunteers are crucial to ensuring that our community events are a success!

  • MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER

Are you a medical professional? We need physicians, dentists, nurses, dieticians, and others with medical experience to help provide free health screenings and give talks on health care topics. If you have these skills and would be willing to offer your time and talents in service to our community, please let us know, and we will add your name to a list of individuals to contact as needs arise.
